Vermont regulates automated license plate readers under 23 V.S.A. § 1607. The statute caps retention at 18 months. Vermont routes all plate data to a Department of Public Safety system that destroys it 18 months after collection, and officers may query only the past seven days of active data. Written requests must state specific and articulable facts tied to an ongoing criminal, missing-person, or commercial-vehicle matter, and after six months historical data may be released only under a warrant or court order.
