ALPR law in Idaho
Idaho regulates automated license plate readers under Idaho Code § 49-1432. Senate Bill 1180, in force since July 1, 2025, confines police use of plate readers to investigating felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic accidents and searching for missing or endangered persons, and bars using them to enforce traffic infractions unrelated to an accident. It sets no retention limit, but every query must be logged with the user's identity and purpose, users must be trained, and agencies must audit the logs twice a year.
