ALPR law in Illinois
Illinois regulates automated license plate readers under 625 ILCS 5/2-130. Illinois regulates sharing rather than retention: ALPR users may not share plate data with an out-of-state agency to investigate laws restricting reproductive health care, or laws allowing detention based on immigration status, and may not share at all unless the requesting agency first files a written declaration to that effect. The section sets no retention cap.
